<3 My Lil' Reds

Thanks to @Samuraikitten for this, a blend of her favorite Tex Avery cartoon and a fitting song Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs:

It is no surprise, I hope, that most who know me well, know I am a bit of a musicphile, that is a lover of all kinds of music. It was the thing to do when trying to avoid trouble in the town were I grew up. When mom died, I kinda threw myself into music like it was a life raft. I have 31,101 songs in my iTunes music library and about 130 new albums I have yet to add. It is seriously that bad. I am going to walk you through my genera distinctions and some of my favorites from each group.

My Favorite Group: Social Distortion

Now, this is just one song out of the 11 albums. Mike Ness is the one person I would love to meet. His music has really influenced my life. There is something there about being a guy dealing with a shit hand and overcoming it. Ness is the only original member left (still alive) I believe, with the others lost to drugs and time. I first heard them in the mid-80s and I haven’t looked back. Ness’ solo project is a bit more country, a bit more coverband, but still great, in fact it is through his music that I started listening to the Man in Black.

Johnny Cash

JC has been covered and remixed and sampled and more. Perhaps the younger crowd will remember the movie Walk The Line, based on his life story, or his last album where he covered music from the more recent past, Nirvana’s Hurt? In all, his music legacy is great. I can go back to his early music, even the more twangy stuff, and enjoy it.

the Misfits

I can’t say enough about this group. Horror Punk? Yes please. I think they have saved my sanity many times when I was on the edge of running off for good.

Dropkick Murphy’s

I’m not Irish or anything, but nothing beats a goof fight song like this. These guys have a lot of shit thrown at them and I am not talking about their politics, but something in me really enjoys the sounds of bagpipes in rock music.

Chopper City Boyz ft. B.G.

Yes. I am a white boy who listens to rap. Go ahead, make your jokes. I don’t know how you could live in a place with such a large urban population and not listen to rap. I think part of this stems from living in major cities like New Orleans, New York and Atlanta. I’ll tell you something…give me some DMX and 250lbs on a bench and I will demonstrate how a beat can help you train.

Chevelle

Okay. Please don’t judge. I admitted my rap side, now here is my overplayed on the radio side. I think I sing Chevelle in my mind when I am talking to Debbie sometimes. It keeps things interesting. BTW, this vid is set to the movie 300 (a killer flick).

More to come. I will admit my interest in flamenco guitar, classical music, and more. Stay tuned.

A Caged Naked Women in Shreveport!

Looking for Quinn?

I guess the ladies love Quinn...

Ok, so this news is somewhat old, but I find it hysterical, especially because I was looking for my friend John Quinn and she graced my browser window. It appears this almost naked woman caged herself in Downtown Shreveport (really really) to protest the arrival of the Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus in Shreveport. Wearing nothing but painted on tiger strips, a thong and some ears, the woman held a sign saying “wild animals don’t belong behind bars.” Now, I don’t know about you, but I am thinking she is calling more attention to PETA than Ringling Bros. PETA has videos of elephants and other animals beaten in order to force them to perform confusing and physically challenging tricks. Personally, I think she was hoping to catch a tiger by the tail (ay John?).

Shreveport Weres

…on a follow-up I want to also invite the lone wolves to get involved in pack runs, if not our politics. You are welcome as well. See previous post. Fresh faces welcome.

Calling Long Tooth Pack Members!

We are looking to put together a roster of pack-members in the area. The Pack Master would like to know more about the people who have run with us. We will be adding a formal list on Twitter and a mailing list offline for news and the like. Our pack is family.

If you are new to the area and are interested in joining the pack, please apply as well. We will be holding a run and trials for new members soon. Please email Alcide@AlcideHerveaux.com or DM me @AlcideHerveaux

So it looks like Debbie and Felton are arriving. “Beloved”? Sheesh. Hardly.  She is so out of my mind.

I am glad to see they have my sis right, though she is not so much into horoscopes as she is into kicking ass.

Ha.

After seeing some of my friends use it, I have been playing around with Formspring.me. It seems a good way to answer in more than 140 characters, though I always welcome the challenge of answering in my tweets. Actually, when I began my trip down the Twitter-hole, I was most interested in how people related in such a limited space. Microblogging was a trend I was exploring for work, in the early stages of the game, and I was researching — just how much can one say in a tweet? Craft and skill was put into saying the most in the least amount of space, not really over the course of multiple tweets (as it seems now). How the world has shifted over these past two years….

Currently, I find myself with a blog and Facebook/MySpace pages that have sprung (like weeds? flowers? redwoods?) from the roots of my Twitter account. I never intended this. I also have looked out into Posterous, Tumblr, Del.icio.us, and a variety of others. Add now FormSpring.me. I feel like such a social networking whore.

Each tool is cool in its own way, each allows another aspect of my persona to be highlighted: If you want off-the-cuff Alcide, read his blog; if you want to see what sites he looks at, check out his Delicious acct; if you want fast and current “live” Alcide, check out Twitter…and on and on. Heck, I have even been delving into CafePress for all your Alcide Love merchandise (more including exclusive designs to come)!

Most of all, I am thankful to have met some great people, people who share a love of something wild and expansive (and I am not just talking about myself). I’d like to know how you feel about the way things have developed for you in this crazy cyberworld of play and exploration. What sites have you tried and love/hate? Who have you come to love in this world? Who have you met? What drive you to keep coming back? The floor is yours…

I have been unplugged, sans cell-phone, sans laptop, sans pants (apparently), since New Year’s wonderfully bright and big Blue Moon. A funny thing happens when you are running wild, blue moon bright in the sky, getting away from the world seems like a good idea. So a few of my pack brothers and sisters, those of us who aren’t quite as obedient as Colonel Flood likes, ran off for a few days and nights. We ran the Appalachian Trail to Virginia, and took in the sites in DC for a night. I think the craziness of the new year made me lose my mind. I came back to reality and work today thought. It was something trying to find clothes for 7 “visiting nudists” in the freezing temps of the East coast…lol…
